General and appointments
Do I need an appointment to visit the Embassy?
Yes. Please book an appointment before visiting the Embassy, so we can make sure your application is handled on the day. You can request one through our Contact page.
What are the Embassy’s opening hours?
Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm, excluding public holidays.
Where is the Embassy located?
1 Mialli Place, O’Malley ACT 2606, Canberra.
How can I pay Embassy fees?
All fees are in Australian dollars and are payable in cash only.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring the original documents listed on the relevant service page, together with a hard copy of each. For many services you also need a self-addressed, prepaid or stamped envelope.

Lebanese passports
Do I need to attend in person to apply for a passport?
Yes. Anyone applying for a new biometric Lebanese passport must attend the Embassy in person.
How much does a Lebanese passport cost?
Adults (10-year biometric passport): $435.00. Children (5-year biometric passport): $217.50. Manual renewal of a «2003» passport (2 years): $87.00. All fees are cash only.
How long does a passport take?
A standard application usually takes 3 to 4 months. A faster DHL Express service is available (at least 2 weeks), with DHL fees paid separately. Applications may take longer if there are pending legal matters in Lebanon.

Civil status records
How do I register the birth of my child?
Births are registered free of charge. The parents’ marriage must already be registered in Lebanon. See Birth Registration for the documents required.
How do I register a marriage that took place in Australia?
Marriage registration is free of charge. Requirements depend on whether both spouses are Lebanese. See Marriage Registration.
How do I register a divorce?
Divorce registration requires the Australian divorce order, its Arabic translation and DFAT authentication. Fees apply. See Divorce Registration.
How do I register a death?
Death registration is free of charge. One of the heirs, or a representative holding a power of attorney, attends the Embassy. See Registering a Death.
How do I get an Ikhraj Kayd (civil status record) from Lebanon?
Bring Lebanese and Australian identification. Photos are needed for an Individual record only. The fee is $87.00 per application, cash only. See Civil Status Records.
Visas for Lebanon
Do Australian citizens need a visa to visit Lebanon?
Australian citizens can obtain a free 30-day visa on arrival in Lebanon.
How much does a visa cost?
Single entry: $128.00. Double entry: $181.50. Multiple entry: $254.00. All fees are cash only.
Can a child under 18 apply for a visa?
Yes. Both parents must attend the appointment and bring their identification.

Legalisation and documents
How much does a Power of Attorney cost?
A General Power of Attorney is $145.00 and a Specific Power of Attorney is $72.50, cash only. The person granting it must attend the Embassy in person. See Power of Attorney.
I am over 70. Do I need anything extra for a Power of Attorney?
Yes. Bring an original letter from your doctor (signed and sealed) confirming you are of sound mind. The letter must be no more than 7 days old on the day you attend.
How do I get a Police Check from Lebanon?
You can apply through the Embassy ($87.00) or grant a Power of Attorney to someone in Lebanon to obtain it for you ($72.50). See Police Check.
How do I use my Lebanese driver’s licence to get an Australian licence?
Bring the original, authenticated letter from the Road Authority in Lebanon with your Lebanese licence, ID and passport. The Embassy issues a confirmation letter for $232.00. See Driver’s Licence.
Lebanese citizenship
Can I obtain Lebanese citizenship through marriage?
Under Lebanese law, citizenship by marriage is available to a foreign woman married to a Lebanese man, at least one year after the marriage is registered in Lebanon. A foreign husband of a Lebanese woman does not acquire citizenship through marriage alone.
How much does a citizenship application cost?
Between $275.50 and $500.00, cash only, depending on the documents to authenticate. See Lebanese Citizenship.
