Power of Attorney

Requirements to issue a General or Specific Power of Attorney for use in Lebanon

Important: attend in person

The person granting the Power of Attorney must attend the Embassy in person to complete the application. All documents must be presented in hard copy at the time of the appointment.

Requirements

Please bring the following documents to your appointment:

1. Your Lebanese identification

  • A Lebanese identity card with your photo, or an Individual Civil Status Record (هوية لبنانية أو بيان قيد إفرادي).

OR

  • A Family Civil Status Record (Family Ikhraj Kayd, بيان قيد عائلي) with a valid Australian passport or a valid Australian driver’s licence. The names and date of birth must match the Lebanese document.

2. Your attorney’s identification

A printed copy (front and back) of the Lebanese identification of the person you are appointing in Lebanon to complete the process.

3. Documents for the type of Power of Attorney

  • Selling a property in Lebanon: a copy of the land title deeds.
  • Leasing a property in Lebanon: a copy of the land title deeds.
  • Selling a car: the car documents.
  • Bank accounts: the bank account details.

Recent documents only

The Lebanese documents must not be old documents.

Aged over 70

If the person granting the Power of Attorney is over 70, they must bring an original letter from their doctor (signed and sealed, with a live signature) stating:

  • The person’s name as registered in Lebanon.
  • The person’s date of birth as registered in Lebanon.
  • How long the doctor has known the person and has been treating them as a patient.
  • That the person does not suffer from any mental illness, is able to make their own decisions, and is of sane and sound mind.
  • If the person is on regular medication, the names of the medications and confirmation that they do not affect the person’s mental capacity.

The doctor’s letter must be no more than 7 days old on the date you attend the Embassy.
