Before you start

The parents’ marriage must be legally registered in Lebanon before the birth can be registered.

Required documents

Bring the originals and a hard copy of each document to your appointment.

1. Registered marriage in Lebanon

The parents’ marriage must be legally registered in Lebanon.

2. Father’s family civil extract (بيان قيد عائلي)

A Lebanese family civil extract for the father showing that the marriage is registered in Lebanon, or a registered marriage certificate (وثيقة زواج منفذة).

3. Original Australian birth certificate

The original Australian birth certificate issued by the Births, Deaths and Marriages registry.

Marriage not yet registered in Lebanon?

Please review the marriage registration requirements and bring all the required original documents at the time of your application.

How to apply

At your appointment, bring all the documents listed above, in original and hard copy.

Additional notes

  • Children must be registered in order of birth, from eldest to youngest.
  • A self-addressed, prepaid or stamped envelope must be brought at the time of your application.

Important

Either spouse may, individually, request the registration in Lebanon of the birth of one of their children born in Australia with the competent Lebanese civil status registers. Neither party may claim lack of knowledge of, or lack of consent to, this registration: registering the birth of a child born in Australia from a valid, established marriage is a confirmatory and declaratory act of an existing legal fact rather than a constitutive one, so it does not depend on the consent of either party.
